        Quite frankly I was puzzled when UNESCO—not exactly a reliable restaurant guide—declared Tucson a “World City of Gastronomy.” You could always get good Mexican food in the city (and El Charro, opened in 1922, is said to be the birthplace of the chimichanga), and there were always good diners and breakfast places around town.
